  • Erectile Dysfunction and Blood Pressure Meds are Potentially Dangerous and Expensive. Here's Something That May Be Safer and Work Better, and It's CHEAP!

All the E.D. and many B.P. meds do nothing more than raise nitric oxide levels with dangerous substances that have side effects. They're dangerous because they do the same thing as a couple of amino acids but through a synthetic chemical that does bad things in the body. They are claimed to be safe, but if so, why are pilots not allowed to fly within eight hours of using them?

The Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded a couple of doctors who discovered the effects of nitric oxide in the body, and one of them has published a paper on an amino acid therapy that radically reduces blood pressure and restores erectile function significantly, without drugs and without side effects; these amino acids occur naturally in the human body and if they are not needed for the production of nitric oxide, they are simply passed from the body. The amino acids are L-Arginine and L-Citrulline, and they are very inexpensive.

I am using them for my blood pressure (thanks to a thyroid condition, I am type II diabetic, and glycosilation -- joining of excess glucose to proteins, creating a substance and cells that the immune system attacks because it is not indiginous to the human body -- of cells in the arterial and venal walls causes them to swell, closing the bore of the blood vessel and raising blood pressure), and it dropped my BP from 210/140 to 140/74 within an hour. Your results may vary.

Caution: download the complete article on the process and therapy here and read it thoroughly, then take it to the physician prescribing your BP and/or ED meds and have them read it. It's quite concise and will take only a couple of minutes. They can then advise you as to how to switch over to this therapy without risking having your blood pressure drop out and cause you to pass out and possibly injure yourself; taking two different meds for the same condition can cause an overdose and ill effects.

Also be advised: Do this at your own risk, by your own choice. I am saying that I am successfully using it, and that you should check it out with your doctor, not that you should dump your prescription meds immediately and start taking it. Don't be reckless and stupid and jump blindly into manipulating our blood pressure. Doing it right can do you a world of good, and doing it wrong can kill you, literally. My successful use of this therapy in no way promises or guarantees your successful use. And I'm not trying to make a legal disclaimer here; I'm trying to tell you that this isn't like adding some vitamin C to your diet. Dropping your BP too low can cause sudden dizziness and unconsciousness, which could cause you to fall and break your neck or crash a car and kill your family or someone else's. If you decide to try this, go slowly and deliberately and do it right.

Here's further evidence that ED drugs can be dangerous: a recent study shows that they can cause hearing loss.

I have been using 4000 Mg of L-Argenine for a few years. I recently added the L- Citroline to it and I am like a 50 year old with the ladies, not the actual 72 year old man that I am.

That's great! It's unfortunate that you didn't hear about L-Citrulline when you first started taking L-Arginine, because L-Arginine is so poorly absorbed without L-Citrulline that you may have never received any benefit from it until recently. Indeed, if memory serves, the article by the Noble Prize winners states that it is simply NOT absorbed without L-citrulline.

That's why it's SO important to research before taking supplements. For instance, fat soluable vitamins like vitamin D3 are not absorbed except when taken with fat, which makes a good case for taking fish oil supplements with your vitamins, but there are things you need to know about fish oil, too, such as that it needs to come from deep-running salt-water fish to be safe from mercury contamination, and that if your fish oil supplement stinks in the bottle, it's probably processed wrong and spoiled (it doesn't do well with heating), and you need to switch to another brand (I've had incredibly good luck with NSI, who seems to stay on top of all the important details of processing, such as how much heat something can withstand before it's ruined).

You hear something almost daily about taking zinc to prevent the common cold, but you never hear that if you take more than 40 mg per day, including what is in the food you eat, it's toxic, and there are zinc supplements providing 50-100 mg in a single capsule! And let's not forget about wild yam, which has an enzyme that helps to get rid of liver spots. Great, except that wild yam extract seems to only be available in creams to rub on the spots, and you could soak in a vat of wild yam for years and never see anything happen to liver spots because the spots are caused by a problem in the liver, not the skin, and ingestion of the wild yam is required for the benefit.

It's your body, your health, and your responsibility to govern what goes into both. You can waste a WHOLE LOT of money on the world's best supplements and get no benefit from them at all, or in fact, harm yourself, if you take them wrong. It's a pity that we have to supplement to replace things that were once in our food supply -- and still should be there -- but if you have to do it, do it right.

With much research on this because of heart problems I started using L-Arginine HCL, a reduced form that is well absorbed and when combined with L-Citrulline makes for a healthy balance between them. The L-Citrulline aids in normalizing NO levels so you don't over do it but rather enhances your bodies ability to maintain the optimum level over an extended period of time.

I am investigating and looking into a newer form that was initially developed by the body building community as a means to enhance muscle development, reduced doses to limit possible stomach upset and the excess stomach acid and heartburn that can result. It also is much higher absorbed with or without L-Citrulline. The only I can find for it that is not in an expensive body building supplement is at http://purebulk.com/l-arginine-ethyl-ester-malate.

These folks have a ton of supplements in bulk form that all have the tested results of it's making on the package. They also list all the many manufacturers who use each specific supplement or vitamin and it's label name if you prefer to buy it from someone else instead of mixing it from the bag or making your own capsules.

Check it out yourself and you'll find many very popular names on those lists. Remember though if you are using this as an aid for vascular and arterial health as I do, it's effectiveness is improved immensely when used with L-Lysine and L-Proline as well.

I'm going include something I hadn't in my last post because frankly I take it so much for granted I later realized it's important to include especially when talking about erectile function.

I use L-Arginine HCL in combination with L-Ornithine HCL in the following formula: for each 1gm of L-Arginine HCL I use 500mg of L-Ornithine HCL. I also take the L-Citrulline separate from this in a single 600mg dose. Please note your body uses L-Ornithine to produce NO from L-Arginine. It also will keep your NO levels at a higher peak when all 3 are combined together.

When I first started looking in to this I was amazed at how many times I kept getting referred to muscle building sites who loved how they enhanced protein metabolism, reduced the aches and pains from a work out, got far stronger faster, and the little reported but undeniable fact that the older men in fact found themselves with the penile response of their teenage years.

This was at first a hushed response but later got quite a following on several forums where it was found, according to actual research and testing, the combination of all three was responsible for an increase in HGH precursors and increased vascular flow. In other words who needs a little pill when this works for more men over a broader range than any tested prescription. And NO side effects.

So if you don't mind finding yourself hiding the bulge in your pants like you used to, try it for yourself. It's the only combination I've found after surgery and stents to get things as close to normal as can be expected. NOTHING else I was prescribed came close to what I get by following this formula.

So, based on the Ignarro article, I came up with the following daily dosage

      Argenine 6000mg
      Ornithine 3000mg
      Citruline 600mg

      And insure Multivitamin contains:
      Vitamin E 30 IU
      Vitamin C 500mg

      Sound about right, Think?

I take 3g of L-Arginine and 600mg L-Citrulline twice a day, 12 hours apart. I've not used L-ornithine yet, but in spite of diabetes, my BP stays about 140/60; when I was a child, skinny and in the peak of fitness, it ran 145/75. Quite frankly, I keep forgetting to add the L-ornithine but seem to be doing fine without it. The best studies I can find indicate you need about 40 IU per 100 Kg of vitamin E daily and 2-2.5 g of vitamin C; US RDA of vitamin C is grossly understated, and has been for decades.

I don't buy it locally. I've had the best luck with the NSI brand at Vitacost.com. Think-First says the ornithine was important for him, so you should try it, too.

I take L-Arginine about 2/3 in the morning and the other in the evening about 12 hours apart as David does. However I take the L-Citrulline once in the morning. The L-Ornithine is something that I can only suggest you try and use your best judgment by watching how it affects you overall. I tend to start out with the recommendations and go up or down depending on how it works. That's why the amount of Ornithine I take is much smaller. According to every measure I have seen this works best for me. Then again each individual is different so pay close attention and let your body tell you what works for you.

I only suggested the Ornithine as it is one of those synergistic things that seem to happen when you find that matching several ingredients together in the right combinations yields far more beneficial affects than using larger amounts individually at different times would.

Also it's important to remember Vitamin-C goes through your system in about 3-4 hours. I take it in 1,000mg doses 4-5 times a day depending on how much stress, hard work and wind/dust/allergens I've been exposed to that day.

I get all of this from Vitacost because they have great prices, many choices for delivery and some great mixtures that make a lot of sense I simply can't find locally. As much as I'd like to contribute to the local economy and help them out the local health stores just don't stock what I find works best. If you add in the cost to drive there and back again at today's gas prices it just doesn't make sense.

I will add I get NSI's AdvanC because it also has quercetin and several other minor trace compounds that blend well together in an easy form to take that's also gentle on the stomach. And for the price for the larger sizes you simply can't beat the value. And if you have any allergies at all, the addition of the quercetin to the C does double duty in helping to fend off your body going off the deep end on you when they attempt to flare up. It has many health benefits as well as it has been shown to help keep your bodies system of arterial cleaning working at a higher level and over time improves it.

Essential if you have heart or artery problems or choose a wise preventative to be more proactive about it. The Vitamin-C has been shown to help the garbage breaking off from arteries that are the primary cause of strokes, not the blood clots as so many are lead to believe, and stabilizes them in ways they can be safely flushed from your system. The two together just make a lot of sense.

And don't forget the Vitamin D3!

Doesn't your AdvanC use ester-C, which is fat-soluble and takes a lot longer to be used or lost?

      The ingredients are listed as:

      Vitamin C (as Advan-C® mineral ascorbate complex)1000 mg1,667%
Calcium (as Advan-C® mineral ascorbate and calcium threonate)100 mg10%
      Quercetin (bioflavonoid)200 mg*
      Citrus Bioflavonoids200 mg*
I believe it is a form of Ester-C but different enough they have applied for their own patent. It does stay in the blood stream longer but as I understand it, not positive on this part, under stress can be used up fairly quickly. I haven't seen anything that says it stays around longer than 6 hours and even then is still on a rapid descent. I must admit I haven't looked into this aspect nearly as much as enjoying the combination of all the ingredients when used together.

I'll check around and see what I can find in more detail...

The big question is whether it is fat-soluble. Fat-soluble forms of normally water-soluble vitamins stay available until they're used, rather than just passing through the urine if unused.

With just a brief search I turned up this link about what Vitamin-C works best, L-ascorbic Acid (C6H8O6), and how it differs from Ester-C.

http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/esterc.htm the upshot being is it is NOT fat-soluble. However it's main claim to fame, being easier on the stomach, while true the actual chemical makeup can actually cause more damage than it will prevent. Several well known Vitamin-C researchers are quoted as saying a sodium ascorbate will work closely if you absolutely can't take the normal acidic form. However any mineral ascorbate will never work as well and in some cases cause more harm than good. When analyzed for it's chemical make up by a retired chemist specializing in biological warfare and his attempts to judge it's merit as a potential aid in treatment found it to be "2lbs of dung in a 1lb bag."

This is a major eye opener for me as I have learned to trust these folks for getting the low down on Vitamin-C when it's been under numerous attacks by various shady "health" opportunists on the TV news. I must say I have been using NSI buffered C recently after ordering it by mistake and it has been a bit better. It doesn't have the quercetin in it I like but that's easy enough to get on the side.

However at this point I am going in search of other options. I must say the liposomal Vitamin-C capsules I was using is their preferred optimal form and while helping more than the others I had tried I wanted to go back to getting it all in one convenient capsule.

It appears I made an all too common mistake by doing so.

Now what appears to make Ester-C the better C is it's much easier on the stomach and enters the cell much faster. That's when the problems start. In some cases it has actually formed a barrier around other Vitamin_C in the cell and stopped the cell from using any of it. This is not good. I'll do more digging but from what I can see, the mineral ascorbate or any variant form is to be avoided entirely. It's just money down the drain and if you are using it as an aid in certain health conditions as I do, it has the potential to make it worse.

I'll get back when I know more...

For my personal use I take 4,000 IU's in the morning and 2,000 IU's more about 12 hours later with my second helping of L-Arginine. Remember the RDA has recently been revised upwards as the evidence of severe deficiency has been so well established now nobody even attempts to refute it's importance anymore. In one of Dr. Mercola's recent newsletters he mentions it regulates more than 2,000 genes in our bodies and is critical in supporting more than hundred different chemical and another 60-80 or so more hormonal processes THAT THEY CURRENTLY KNOW OF. More are proving dependent on it as well every study they start...

Unfortunately the simple bask in the sunlight doesn't help us much anymore with all the heavyweight BS being spouted about sunscreens. Liquid cancer in a bottle you actually pay for the privilege to get sick with. If you haven't already I'd certainly recommend signing up for Dr. Mercola's free health newsletter at http://www.mercola.com as he has a ton of information freely available just for the time it takes to sign up. He's a medical doctor exploring a more natural approach to medicine.

A funny yet scary true video he has on there is about the town of Allopath. Watch it. It's entertaining and enlightening.

Oh and from the last word I got even the Department of Health in Canada recommends 4,000 IU's of Vitamin D3 because of it's many health and the proven cancer prevention. I get it at Vitacost in a soft gel capsule as it just works better for me. I get the Carlson's brand but there are many others and for around 7-8 bucks for 240 2,000 IU soft gels you can't go wrong.

Once you sign up on Dr. Mercola's website, search on Vitamin D for a start and you can get lost for several days exploring all the info he has on it. It's that important.

Just for the record NONE of the things I recommend here are prescribing or diagnosing anything so David doesn't get dinged by anybody. Also I have no monetary connection to or reimbursement from any of these products or companies. Having made some really awful health choices in my time and after paying the piper for them, I'm just trying to raise others awareness so they can learn from my mistakes.

Live long and prosper! Oh wait a minute I think some TV show had that at one time...

I've been taking 15,000 IU of D3 per day for a year or more and know of no problem. Your body will make up to 20,000 IU per day, and will cut back production to keep levels from being toxic as long as you don't exceeed what it can resist producing. There are some therapies that put people on 50,000 IU per day for four months to reboot their bodies, so I would be hard-pressed to see any danger of toxicity at this level. D3 is cholocalciferol, the specific form of D that is most needed and most bioavailable. Much of the recent research points out that it is not a vitamin, but a hormone, and you know what happens when hormones are deficient. I keep wondering if vitamin C is also a hormone, since every mammal on Earth except us and the Guinnea pig produce their own (our gene is present but dormant for some reason).
